Originally from Lytham St. Annes, Stewart is an experienced professional musician - conductor, singer, accompanist and organist - who formed his first choir at the age of fifteen. He has since worked successfully with youth, school and community choirs at local and national level. This has included performances at the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, Llangollen International Eisteddfod and abroad. A passion for singing and choirs has always been at the heart of his work and has complimented his love of language, expression and communication.
Stewart studied with distinguished singing teachers, Patrick McGuigan, Barbara Robotham and John Cameron and gained his teaching and performing diplomas before completing a degree in music education at the University of Huddersfield. More recently he obtained his Master’s Degree in Performance and Pedagogy with distinction. After many years teaching in schools and colleges he has now returned to his roots as a portfolio musician - performing, teaching, conducting, accompanying and playing the organ. He directs community choirs and musical theatre groups and is on the staff of the Department of Music at the University of Liverpool working with choirs, singers and accompanists.
